Self-contained emergency luminaires have a battery built in as a power source. If the mains voltage fails, the emergency luminaire automatically switches to the battery supply. Different types of batteries are available for use in a self-contained emergency luminaire. The most commonly used batteries are NiCd, NiMH and LiFePO4 and all of them have specific characteristics.
